Snowmageddon (again)
D.C. had a snowstorm with 16-20 inches in December. Now, it's back. Predictions sound pretty confident for 1-2 feet of snow between Friday morning and Saturday evening.
At this point I will note again that when I moved out here, people said it only snowed a few inches a few times a year. It appears we have unusually high snow rates here (as well as elsewhere) this winter.
Unfortunately, I ran out of milk this morning and had promised to bake treats for my co-worker's last day today. So I stopped at the Giant across the parking lot on my way home last night. It was complete chaos. Normally, I avoid grocery stores before storms. I have enough food in my house at any time that I can survive two days without going to the store (doesn't everyone?). So I was especially shocked by the shelves that were BARE. Luckily I wasn't looking for meat, yogurt, shredded cheese or any of a number of other items that were pretty much gone.
And then, I waited in a checkout line for more than 30 minutes. (Did I mention there were no carts or baskets, so I was carrying everything in my arms?) I have never been so happy to leave the grocery store.
At least I know when I return next week, all the food on the shelves will be incredibly fresh.
