The new 'hood

With all my packing, I haven't had time to write a sufficient India post, but I wanted to throw in a small post to say I am still around! My apartment is more or less packed. And today I took a load of stuff (glass tabletops, bulletin boards, some hanging clothes) to my new apartment. I also picked up a bookcase and lamp that I got from some friends who are moving and selling most all their furniture.

So my new place now has a lamp, a bookcase and a pantry (which I bought and assembled last weekend). I even bought and added magnetic latches to my pantry to make it super-cat-proof. (I'm learning to be quite handy with tools.)

I also finally decided on a setup for my furniture in the new place that seems to work and that I'm happy with, so I labeled where the movers should put everything. (Let's hope I still like it with the actual furniture in place since it'll be difficult for me to move things around on my own.)

And, while I was spending the afternoon in the new neighborhood, I took a quick stroll out for lunch. I had read about Fast Gourmet on the Prince of Petworth blog and knew it was close by — only about a block away! It really is an odd place. It's in a gas station, but it has a very cafe feel and even had a TV showing a soccer game. I got my food to go, but they have a number of tables. (Perhaps I should have eaten there since the one thing I didn't bring to my new place yet is a chair or anything to sit on.) And my turkey sandwich and fries were delicious! Warm with good meat and veggies and delicious bread. Plus, they're open late every night and basically all night on Friday and Saturday.

Don't believe me? The restaurant also has glowing reviews on Urban Spoon, DC Dining, Yelp, Washington City Paper and more.

This could be dangerous for my budget!
