I tried to take advantage of the beautiful weather on Saturday. (It was still nice today, but I desperately needed to run some errands and catch up after being gone last weekend and then having hell week at work.)
But Saturday was great. I strolled to Dupont Circle, ate a great lunch of buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto with olive oil on fresh-baked bread with homemade lemonade while sitting outside at a little cafe, stopped at a used bookstore sale and found a book I had been wanting, then checked out the Phillips Collection.
The Phillips is one of D.C.'s lesser-known museums that I had been meaning to visit for a while. Unfortunately, it's also one of the museums you have to pay to visit. But this weekend it was free as part of the Dupont Kalorama Museum Walk Weekend. I had heard good things, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The museum of modern art is housed in the former home of the collection's owner, Duncan Phillips, plus a newer annex. It also includes some newer acquisitions. It includes many works by Renoir, O'Keeffe, Van Gogh and more.
I followed that up with a meandering stroll home past other restaurants and shops. And I stopped to get some Italian ice down the street.
And last night, I watched a friend's band play at a nearby bar, then drank margaritas at a sidewalk table with some friends.
And after my grocery store trip today, my refrigerator is full of summer: sweet corn, watermelon and berries.
