Just before beer club last weekend, one of the cupcake blogs I follow posted a recipe for hefeweizen cupcakes. And since the beer club was fruit beers (and we'd likely be drinking some fruity wheat beers), I decided it was a sign I should make these cupcakes.
The recipe made 12 cupcakes and frosting using just a half bottle of beer, so it really is just imparting a little flavor, and none of it really tastes like beer. But it's a light, lemony cupcake with a malted frosting, which my friends were particularly fond of.
Today, I'm up at 10 a.m. to make more of these for events tonight and tomorrow. I had plenty of hefeweizen left in the six-pack I bought for the first batch. (Note: The original baker used Schlafly hefeweizen. Yes! She lives in St. Louis. I, of course, couldn't find that out here so I went with Magic Hat but there are plenty of hefeweizen options available.)
