The Post-Dispatch's newspaper guild (union) contract expires in June, and the company and guild are currently negotiating. The results so far are grim. The company is requesting a 23 percent pay cut over three years, in addition to the ability to lay off anyone at any time and the elimination or reduction of many benefits. All of that comes as the company is asking the guild to take a second furlough week for the year and as the paper just laid off 39 circulation and classifieds employees.
I'm feeling thankful I moved on, but I'm also thinking of everyone who is still there and hoping for the best for all of them.
