Calling all news nerds
My parents and I went to the Newseum today, and I realized a couple things. 1. I could spend hours upon hours and days upon days in there. 2. Journalists can be pretty full of themselves. Now, I think the Newseum is full of fascinating displays and important reminders about the first amendment and the press. And I'm glad the public seems to enjoy learning more about journalism. But a whole museum to ourselves? It seems a bit much. And yet, I'm as guilty as anyone else since (as noted) I would be happy to visit the place on a weekly basis and puff myself up about what important work my colleagues and I am doing. Below is the cover of today's St. Louis Post-Dispatch, which was on display. Unfortunately, the Weatherbird is rather fuzzy on it.
Other stops
We started the day at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception for Mass and some exploring. (Below is a view of the church from behind the altar.) We also stopped outside the Capitol today to take pictures. And dinner was at a great Italian place next to my apartment — Mamma Lucia's.

W00t! That's my A1! (Fuzzy Weatherbird: Dan's on vacation, so it's a fake Bird. The older ones don't have the same solid lines and colors that the current ones seem to have.)
