I finally read this news industry story from the May 16 Economist magazine. I think it made a couple points that I haven't seen clarified often:
• The victim is not so much the newspaper as the conventional news package (way news has been presented in the paper).
• It also mentions the pay model of the Financial Times (and others), which allow readers to view a few articles a month for free — but forces them to pay if they want to read more or to read stories on specialized topics.
