The House adjourned for its August recess at the end of last week, and this week the Senate left for its recess. That leaves me with more time on my hands for the month of August. Since "everyone" is gone, we won't be publishing for the rest of the month. We will, however, still be updating the website with stories, as well as dealing with some databases, training and projects, so I will have some work to do. But it'll be more relaxed, and I'll be working shorter days. (Finishing at 5 p.m. instead of 8 p.m. is nice.)
On Friday, I took advantage of my early day and met some friends for Jazz in the Garden, which happens every Friday evening during the summer in the Sculpture Garden. The area was packed with people having picnics and drinks on blankets. Luckily, the friends I was meeting arrived early enough to secure a spot, and the weather was perfect. Later, I had some tapas and sangria at Jaleo, a restaurant in the Penn Quarter/Chinatown area.
Today and tomorrow I'm "on duty" for work, but I still managed to get out a bit. I walked through downtown Silver Spring earlier to run some errands. I successfully purchased a replacement nut and washer for the ones that have been missing off my futon since I moved here. And while I was out, I walked through the Whole Foods here for the first time and also checked out a wine cellar and cafe that's downtown. I was impressed with the selection of cheap (but seemingly high-quality) wines, yet I managed to make it out with only one, $11 bottle purchase.
