A labor-free weekend

I took advantage of Labor Day weekend with some major relaxation.

Football Saturday
I spent most of Saturday on the couch watching football with a friend. We cheered Mizzou to its big win over Illinois and then watched parts of various other games that were televised later. (I was a bit nervous about how the Tigers would look, since it was Blaine Gabbert's first start at quarterback and we had lost other offensive greats, such as Jeremy Maclin. But I was pleasantly surprised by our team. We have some improvements to make, but we have great potential.) Oh, how nice it is that football season has returned! And I'll be in Columbia to watch the Tigers in person this coming Saturday. (Yes, I'm watching them play Bowling Green, but it's my only opportunity to see them live this season.)

Beach Sunday
I hit the beach for the first (and likely only) time this summer Sunday. My friend Melissa and I drove to Rehoboth Beach in Delaware for the day. Traffic was OK for most of the way, but it's quite amazing how many people were headed that way along with us. It was also the first beach I've been to with a boardwalk and carnival games and all that excitement. (When I was younger, my family went to Hilton Head Island, S.C., almost every summer, but that was a more relaxed beach experience.) The beach was crowded, but we enjoyed lying in the sun and braving some big ocean waves.

Chick-A-Movie Monday
After seeing the Chick-fil-A free sandwich commercial over and over during football on Saturday, my friend and I decided to stop by the Silver Spring restaurant today. I wore a Mizzou shirt and thoroughly enjoyed my free sandwich (with lettuce, tomato and provolone). Then, we checked out "(500) Days of Summer" at the AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring. I think now that I've been to the AFI theater, I can call myself a real Silver Springer, haha. The movie, by the way, was quite good.
