What newsrooms need: more punches

A newsroom fight (complete with a punch) at the Washington Post was all over the D.C. blogs this week. The City Paper gave a play-by-play, of sorts. And Politico wrote about how surprised the puncher was that a punch thrown in the newsroom was news.

"Back when I got into journalism, the idea that a fistfight in a newsroom would turn into a news story was unthinkable," Allen said when reached Monday evening. "The guys in the sports department at the New York Daily News, they had so many, you wouldn’t even look up."

Newsrooms have just gotten too soft and civilized, I guess. Although some days I think a newsroom fight would be just what we need.
