My dad had a significant birthday (yes, 6-0) on Halloween. Months ago, I talked with my mom, brother and sister-in-law about making a surprise visit home in conjunction with a party for him. We ended up going with a small gathering of friends who used to have a trick-or-treat/Pete's birthday party each Halloween.
The party was a surprise overall, but I think he was especially shocked to see me show up at the door. We had a great time and spent the next day at some Southern Illinois wineries and an SIU basketball game in the new arena.
