India: A Day in Delhi

Underground arches at fort.
We had one day to explore in Delhi before the celebration of Holi (a day when most sites, shops and restaurants are closed).

Tughlaqabad Fort wall.
We checked out Tughlaqabad Fort, which was built in the Third Delhi. (Delhi now is the Ninth Delhi.) The fort was huge with lots of ruins. We could see all the way to New Delhi and other areas. (The smog wasn't too bad that day so it was possible, though a little clouded.)

We spent much of this day shopping because the rest of the crew was flying back the next night. We visited a silver store and FabIndia, a chain store of good quality. (Adam compared it to Macy's, though the store itself was small in square footage.) We also went to Dilli Haat, a bazaar that brings in artisans from across India to sell their goods. It had a fair-like atmosphere with food stands and a band and twinkling lights at night.

See more photos from Dharamsala and Delhi here.
