Visiting the embassies
I visited my first embassies this weekend as part of Passport D.C. I recently (finally) met up with the young adult group at my church, so I joined some of them for this event. Passport D.C. is an event that opens up some of the embassies in D.C. for tours and events.
We visited the embassies of Colombia and Indonesia, both near Dupont Circle. Both were in gorgeous old former homes full of carved wood. The Indonesian embassy was once the home to the owner of the Hope Diamond.
Then we traveled up Connecticut Avenue to another patch of embassies. We stopped at the embassies of Ghana, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Pakistan and Nigeria. Those embassies were built more functionally but were large, beautiful, new buildings.
It was really great to see the embassies and learn more about these countries. I hope I can make it to some of the other embassies in future years, and I plan to visit some of the European embassies during the EU events next weekend.
Derby day
Saturday evening I went to a Kentucky Derby party at the home of one of my co-workers. We drank mint juleps and crammed into his basement to watch the race. Then we hung out outside in the beautiful spring weather.
Viognier
I finished off the weekend by hosting this month's wine club at my apartment today. We drank viognier and had some delicious food. I had some viognier wines previously that I had liked, and I think today's wine club convinced me that I'm a fan of these grapes.

You had a super busy weekend! The embassies sound like they were cool to visit. I didn't even remember that the Kentucky Derby was on...not that I would have watched it, but I'd like to think that I'm more up-to-date on current events!
Man...I miss drinking wine! We had Italian at one of our favorite restaurants the other night and even though it was for a good reason...I missed my glass of wine with dinner! We won't be able to have a glass when you're visiting in September, but on your next visit...I'll share some of my favorites with you!
