Giving in to the bike

A friend gave me a free bike last year. I've ridden it a few times, borrowing a helmet from a friend. But the bike could use a new chain, and I haven't yet bought my own helmet. But after last weekend, I think it's time to buy a helmet and make my bike more usable.

I wanted to spend some time outside Saturday, so I decided to walk to Rock Creek Park and find a nice grassy spot to read and relax for a few hours. The edge of the park is really close to me, but the grassy areas are a little farther away. Yet, I thought this would be easily walkable. After walking about two miles to get to the first (not prime) grassy spot, I decided a bike would be a better mode of transportation when I want to just GET THERE.

Despite that, I did enjoy the walk there (and back), as I had plenty of time to take in the nature around me. I even made friends with a deer that posed for a few pictures. I also had time to finish Elizabeth Gilbert's book "Committed" while I was enjoying the outdoors.
