Three and a half hours, a burned finger and 23 cupcakes later, I'm sick of chocolate. Let me explain.
At work, the copy desk bakes treats for each editorial employee's birthday. Since I already had a background of bringing baked goods at work, I fit right in when I came last year. Now, I'm one of the regulars who usually makes something for each birthday.
This week, we're celebrating two birthdays on Tuesday. Since I realized this in advance and was going to be around this weekend, I decided to bake something new (as opposed to a box mix for cupcakes or brownies, which I sometimes do).
I flipped through a number of cupcake recipes I've been collecting and decided on this one: "better than sex" cupcakes. (Or, as I plan to introduce them at work, quadruple chocolate cupcakes.) It's from one of my favorite cupcake blogs, the Cupcake Project. (On a side note, the author, Stef, is from St. Louis, although I don't know her.)
As I type this, I just finished, but I have to say — they definitely take some time to make! I also learned that I need more mixing bowls and spatulas. Since this is basically three recipes in one, I was continually washing and trading bowls. I also think having some jumbo cupcake pans would have helped as bigger cupcakes would be easier to fill.
And I'm so sick of chocolate (the taste and especially the smell — and cleaning it up) that I didn't even try the finished product. (I did taste the chocolate chocolate chip cupcake batter, chocolate mousse filling, dark chocolate ganache topping and white chocolate decoration as I went, though — yes, that's what's in them, in case you don't want to click to the recipe to read it.)
I'll try to remember to post an update as to whether my co-workers like them. (But I can't make any promises.)
